
Iridium Communications CEO Matt Desch told CNBC in a video interview aired Friday that the company has a new satellite network in low-Earth orbit and considers internet of things as a “high-growth area.”
“We have brand-new satellites that are in space. We got a bunch of revenue streams that will propel our growth in the coming years,“ Desch said on the channel“™s Squawk Box program.
His remarks came a month after he announced the company’s plan to launch on Dec. 30 the final batch of 10 Iridium NEXT satellites to complete the L-band network that will deliver Iridium Certus-backed broadband and IoT services to customers.
Desch, a four-time Wash100 awardee, told CNBC how Iridium supports the aviation sector, especially in providing operational communications in the aircraft“™s cockpit, and delivers satellite communications to approximately 85 percent of the world“™s surface compared with cellular coverage.
