The Department of Defense has selected Smiths Detection to be part of an effort to develop a new, miniature chemical detection device.

SDI said Wednesday that it will help the DoD engineer an Aerosol and Vapor Chemical Agent Detector, which will be used by the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine Corps in a variety of missions.

The AVCAD presolicitation notice on FedBizOpps says that the device must be capable of detecting airborne chemical threats, feature “a wireless remote alarm capability“ and come in mounted and dismounted configurations.

Technology firm 908 Device will work with SDI as a subcontractor and enable the use of high-pressure mass spectrometry for the effort.
