Qualcomm has partnered with Commsignia and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada to implement a vehicle communication system in Las Vegas roadways.
A trial program will test the cellular vehicle-to-everything technology on select routes within the city to demonstrate its potential advantages for C-V2X-equipped roadside units, Qualcomm said Monday.
The platform is designed to leverage 5G connectivity, light detection radar platforms and cameras that will work to facilitate vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-pedestrian communications.
Commsignia will install ITS-OB4-C on-board units and ITS-RS4-C roadside units on C-V2X trial vehicles to test traffic messaging and signal phase and timing functions.
Qualcomm also teamed up with regional governments from China, France, Germany, Japan and the U.S. to perform similar field tests.
