Coherent Technical Services Inc. has received a contract from the U.S. Air Force to develop a software prototype to test the cybersecurity of an aircraft's avionics systems and interfaces.

CTSi said Tuesday it will explore multiple fuzzing techniques intended to facilitate vulnerability assessments of avionics equipment and air platforms through the Small Business Innovation Research agreement for the Tools to Enable Systematic Testing of Avionics Cyber Security project.

The company will evaluate and narrow down the methods for a demonstration effort, as well as create a user interface meant to accelerate the avionics security evaluation process.

Phase I of the project will center on defining requirements to facilitate full interaction between the hardware and avionics. CTSi noted it will provide its Mudbucket hardware as a means to demonstrate the testing platform with actual avionics systems.
