The Department of Homeland Security is examining the feasibility of transitioning the current information technology support model at DHS Headquarters to a managed service approach.

DHS currently uses a government-owned, contractor-operated environment to manage end-user devices and looks to implement a contractor-owned, contractor-operated platform that would help facilitate IT equipment upgrades for department users, according to a sources sought notice posted Wednesday on FedBizOpps.

The proposed model seeks to expand support coverage for widely dispersed HQ users within and possibly outside continental U.S.

The department noted it expects a managed service provider to help improve security, customer service end user experience, as well as use virtualization, mobile computing and thin client applications.

Specifically, DHS wants to use an “as-a-service” managed structured contract, create service performance metrics with an artificial intelligence tool and implement an integrated hardware and software management program.

Interested parties can submit input through Mar. 25.
