State Agencies May Need New Funding Model for Cloud; Deloitte’s Thomas Beck Quoted

Some experts say state agencies should adopt a new funding model to facilitate their migration to the cloud, GCN reported Tuesday.

Thomas Beck, a principal at Deloitte, said funding plays a big role in helping agencies get to the cloud but the model used to fund such platforms has not changed.

“They’re now buying from a cloud vendor rather than a managed hosting vendor, but it’s still looks a lot the same,” he said. “I think if they’re going to achieve the benefits of cloud, they’re going to need a new approach.

Beck cited the potential role of executive leadership, coordinated strategy and policies in facilitating cloud procurements.

“You’d have that leadership at the state level and then you’d have a contract and platform vehicle put in place, which is where these innovative contracting deals would come in,” he added.
