The U.S. Army awarded power grid operator Golden Valley Electric Association a 10-year, $49M contract to provide electrical utility services to a military base located in Alaska.

GVEA will supply power at Fort Greely through May 31, 2029, and receive $2.5M at the time of award, the Department of Defense said Thursday.

The military branch received one bid for the firm-fixed-price contract and will use fiscal 2019 operations and maintenance funds to cover the initial obligated amount.

Fairbanks, Alaska-based GVEA manages transmission and distribution lines, substations and generating facilities that support military installations such as Fort Wainwright, Fort Greely and Eielson Air Force Base.
