Northrop Grumman and L3 Technologies each landed contract extensions with a combined value of $27M to further the development of a low band jamming pod for the U.S. Navy's electronic warfare missions, C4ISRNET reported Thursday.

L3 secured a $13.6M contract and Northrop received a $13.5M award to demonstrate concepts for the Next Generation Jammer Low Band program and help the Navy design a modernized jamming pod for the EA-18 Growler electronic attack aircraft.

Northrop teamed up with Harris, and Comtech Telecommunications' PST subsidiary to produce and demonstrate low band jammer systems under a 20-month, $35M contract awarded in October 2018.

The Navy selected Raytheon to develop jamming technology in a mid-band configuration in 2016.

John Thompson, director of business development for airborne C4ISR at Northrop, said the intersection of communications systems, radars and networks within the low-band spectrum makes such systems more capable to counter stealth-shaped aircraft.
