Raytheon and the U.S. Navy have tested a sea-based variant of the Excalibur munition during a recent test-firing series.

The company said Monday it demonstrated the multirange features of Excalibur N5, an extended-range projectile technology  designed for use with five-inch naval guns.

"N5 doubles the range of the Navy's big guns and delivers the same accuracy as the land-based version," said Sam Deneke, vice president at Raytheon's land warfare systems business.

Excalibur is designed to aim for targets with a less than two-meter radial miss distance.
