Greg Decker, a principal at Booz Allen Hamilton, has proposed four cybersecurity measures for the Department of Defense to detect and address information technology security threats in real time.

He wrote in an opinion piece posted Monday on Fifth Domain that DoD components should break down silos to simplify the information sharing process and tighten oversight of contracting efforts to reduce vulnerability from a breach.

Decker said establishing a centralized system to identify threats across the department’s worldwide network and IT infrastructure can aid in diagnosis and mitigation activities. He recommended that DoD adopt a multidimensional strategy that will offer staff the opportunity to experience a differentiated career and different training programs.

“Federal agencies, like the DoD, can turn the tide on the battle now by rethinking how to best prioritize their spend, time and talent to more nimbly detect hackers and prevent future threats,” he added.
