Pete Iversen, program manager at Collins Aerospace, has said the company is already implementing their clarity noise reduction technology to potentially address the Federal Aviation Administration’s need for an advanced air traffic control system.

Iversen said in a Modern Battlepsace interview published Tuesday that Collins Aerospace currently offers a ground-fixed radio platform that uses the modernized noise-reduction algorithm to clarify speech which may support the FAA’s need for compact ATC technology.

He also remarked that an advanced ATC system ought to include the ability to handle both VHF and UHF frequencies for civilian and military aircraft, and noted that the company’s existing manpack radios such as the PRC-162 are designed for multiple missions and enable radio interoperability.

“This makes crystal clear audio of utmost importance in an emergency situation for ATC and explains why the FAA is seeking a reliable solution that portably addresses those communication needs,” Iverson said.
