The Department of Homeland Security has posted a request for information on off-the-shelf technology platforms that employ a robotics architecture and could facilitate communications in border environments or missions.
A FedBizOpps notice posted Monday stated the DHS science and technology directorate is interested in systems that can function to identify underground structures, obtacles, contents and potential threats at the southern U.S. border.
According to DHS, the structures at the border measure less than 50 meters, vary in shape and size and lack GPS signal reception. The department is looking for platforms to manage connectivity with remote assets, as well as transmit data and video.
DHS S&T intends to host a demonstration and evaluation event from Aug. 5 to 10 in Arizona. The directorate will invite participants to the exercise through cooperative research and development agreements.
