A partnership between Charles River Analytics and Raytheon’s integrated defense systems business has received a three-year follow-on contract valued at almost $1.5M to develop a hardware modeling system for the U.S. Navy.

The Navy intends to use the System for Naval Data Aggregation and Planning with Probabilistic Reasoning to create models of a vessel’s system components to help operators gain insight into the hardware’s operational availability and improve maintenance operations, Charles River Analytics said Monday.

The Cambridge, Mass.-based company said it will use the open-source Figaro probabilistic programming language in the project.

Kenny Lu, a scientist at Charles River Analytics and SNAPPR technical lead, said the platform is designed to provide estimates and predictions in real time to support the optimization of preventative maintenance scheduling.
