Steve Orrin, federal chief technology officer for Intel, has said that federal agencies need to establish a hardened security approach to prevent cases of data leaks across their networks and systems. Orrin wrote in a FedTech piece published Monday that agencies can overcome cybersecurity challenges by incorporating system design techniques that revolve around data security.

He also recommended integrating a hardened security model at each stage of the hardware manufacturing process, which will enable firewall capabilities that can isolate sensitive data and prevent unauthorized user access.

“Building a chain of trust in a data center environment using a hardened security model is a great place to start,” Orrin said. “The approach enables security at cloud scale without sacrificing performance or agility.”
