The U.S. Army has awarded Northrop Grumman a contract to develop a multmode tactical radar antenna equipped with surveillance and targeting features to provide military personnel with a comprehensive picture of operations.

Northrop said Wednesday that the Re-scalable Aperture for Precision Targeting Radar will consist of building blocks designed to facilitate scalability for different platforms and missions. RAPTR will be built to function in synthetic aperture or ground moving target indicator mode.

Brent Toland, vice president for land and avionics C4ISR at Northrop, said the company intends for the radar’s building block architecture to address demands of a modern, multidomain battlefield.
