The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers will host a workshop on Oct. 7 in Laurel, Md., to discuss 5G and its potential applications in first responder and tactical networks.

“The 5G Summit will allow tactical and first responder communities an opportunity to dive into the uses and potential applications of 5G in the emergency preparedness, national security and defense space,” Ashutosh Dutta, conference organizer and a senior wireless communication systems research scientist at JHU APL, said in a statement published Wednesday.

Dutta also mentioned the potential use of the 5G technology in battlefield networks, augmented and virtual reality, smart cities and internet of things.

Interested stakeholders have until Friday, Sept. 27, to register for the event.
