NRO Adds HySpecIQ to Commercial GEOINT Study Program - top government contractors - best government contracting event

HySpecIQ has received a contract from the National Reconnaissance Office to perform studies that will help inform the development of satellite systems by 2023.

NRO will use data from the assessments in efforts to evaluate current imaging platforms and establish project requirements ahead of procurement activities slated for late 2020, the agency said Monday.

The office initially tapped Maxar Technologies, BlackSky Global and Planet in June to take part in the program. HySpecIQ is the first hyperspectral imaging company selected for the initiative.

Pete Muend, director of NRO's commercial systems program office, said the agency seeks to leverage commercial technology platforms to fortify the nation's geospatial intelligence architecture.

Washington, D.C.-based HySpecIQ develops technology designed to process information across the electromagnetic spectrum and to support data collection activities related to mining, energy, agriculture and forestry.
