Shaun Bierweiler, vice president and general manager of the public sector business at Cloudera, has said agencies can transform into insight-driven organizations by developing a comprehensive data strategy.

He wrote in a LinkedIn article posted Saturday the strategy should cover the implementation of multifunction analytics, a cloud computing environment, security policies and an open-source data management platform.

“There is no asset more powerful than data, and government leaders are keenly aware of both the promising potential and the risks of falling behind in leveraging its capabilities,” Bierweiler noted.

“For agencies to make the most out of their data, they need to apply to that data multiple analytics frameworks, data science tools and machine learning algorithms.”

The public sector should implement analytics tools within a cloud environment, an on-premise data center or a hybrid ecosystem that has been tailored to support mission requirements, he noted.

Bierweiler also urged agencies to adopt an access management approach that supports multifunction analytics across a multicloud platform.

He added that open source technology has the potential to help government organizations manage mission-critical information and the utilization of data.
