Boeing has tested the T-X trainer, officially named the T-7A Red Hawk, to demonstrate the aircraft's high speed at low altitude.

The trainer aircraft achieved a speed record of 560 miles per hour at an altitude of 150 feet above ground, the company said in a tweet posted Tuesday.

Boeing is working with Saab to produce 475 units of the trainer and 120 ground-based training systems under a 16-year, $9.2B contract with the U.S. Air Force.

USAF officially announced the trainer's official name as the T-7A Red Hawk at an Air Force Association conference in September.
