A business unit of General Dynamics will continue to provide telecommunications support to the Department of Homeland Security under a potential five-year, $325M contract awarded in August.

General Dynamics Information Technology said Friday it will support a DHS program that delivers video, data and voice services intended to ensure that government operations continue in the event of a critical situation.

Brian Michl, vice president and general manager of GDIT's DHS sector, said the company's telecom professionals and partners can help the department utilize new technology platforms and improve emergency communications in the federal government.

The emergency communications division at the department's Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency issued the single-award contract to CSRA, which became part of General Dynamics through a $9.7B acquisition deal.

GDIT added it works with carriers in efforts to update DHS priority telecom services and will support 5G cellular technology adoption initiatives as part of the PTS program.
