Cubic has started developing a system designed to speed up the issuance of training gear to military personnel based on a payment tracking technology used at subways, Defense One reported Thursday.

“There would be tags and information in there on a card, and a soldier would just be able to walk either through a…notional area,” Mike Knowles, president of Cubic’s global defense business, said of the proposed system. “Because of the technology, we’ll be able to pick up signals between who they are and what gear they have. We’ll be able to pair that information.”

“We anticipate [that] where issue and receipt for 1,000 people might have taken us half a day, we’ll be able to do that in a matter of minutes now,” he added.
