The U.S. Army has incorporated a modular GPS technology built by General Dynamics“™ GPS Source subsidiary into the U.S. European Command“™s Stryker vehicles in Germany.
The Mounted Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing Gen 1 platform works to trace GPS signals and transmit data to military devices without GPS reception, the company said Tuesday. In addition, MAPS Gen 1 may be modified to include additional features as they become available.
GPS Source also built the SENTRySCOUT tool, a technology that seeks to help warfighters shoot, travel and communicate under austere areas.
“The MAPS Gen 1 Assured PNT system that is being fielded today closes a capability gap for the U.S. Army in major areas of responsibility around the world,“ said Robert Horton, vice president and director for PNT products at General Dynamics“™ mission systems business.
U.S. European Command plans to deploy MAPS Gen 1 to thousands of vehicle systems in Europe.
