Guidehouse’s Vasil Jaiani on Strategies Agencies Should Take to Become Data-Driven Organizations

Vasil Jaiani, data management SME at Guidehouse, wrote in a GCN article published Tuesday that public sector agencies should implement foundational data strategies that could help them fully leverage data as a strategic asset and one is finding a data leader.

“Agencies need a leader with undivided attention who believes in the power of leveraging data and can continuously inspire an organization to move forward on this journey,” Jaiani wrote. “That champion should be included in the senior executive team, as this role is as important as the one of CIO or CTO.”

Another strategy is performing data maturity assessment to evaluate its current state and identify strengths and gaps. Jaiani called on agencies to select a data maturity model based on their unique requirements.

Jaiani said agencies should also create a strategic plan based on their mission, identify key questions that could help advance their missions, conduct an inventory of data systems and critical datasets and select and launch a data governance model.
