CrowdStrike's James Yeager: Organizations Must Ensure Quick Cyber Response Amid COVID-19 Pandemic - top government contractors - best government contracting event

James Yeager, vice president of public sector at CrowdStrike, has said that government and industry entities must implement speedy threat detection, assessment and resolution as the current health crisis brings more aggressive cyber attacks.

Yeager wrote in an opinion piece published Saturday on Fifth Domain that operational disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic provided adversaries with “an irresistible opportunity“ to infiltrate U.S. networks and obtain intellectual property.

He noted that phishing campaigns continue to increase as both government contractors and employees work remotely using systems that are less secure than their platforms at work.

Organizations should also put sharper focus on cybersecurity as the Department of Defense continues to develop its Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program this year, said Yeager.

“Cyberattacks are a constant and while building a bigger, wider and thicker wall may help keep bad actors out, they are persistent and determined enough to eventually get in, and when they do, you're on the clock,“ he added.

Yeager's comments come after CrowdStrike released its Global Threat Report, which details last year's attack vector trends in the public sector including ransomware, malware and state-sponsored threats.
