Amazon Web Services helped Moderna implement a cloud computing platform that supports the biotechnology firm’s research, development and production of messenger RNA-based drug and vaccine candidates for various diseases such as COVID-19.
Cambridge, Mass.-based Moderna uses the AWS platform to run accounting, inventory and manufacturing workloads with SAP’s S/4HANA enterprise resource planning system and manage an automated factory, the cloud provider said Wednesday.
The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority has pledged approximately $955M to help the biotech company further develop and test its mRNA-based vaccine as a potential treatment for the novel coronavirus.
AWS’ managed data warehousing service, Amazon Redshift, allows Moderna engineers and scientists to process data from multiple experiments. The latter company also uses AWS internet of things services to connect robotic equipment and other systems at a drug production facility.
