CNSI has appointed Verlon Johnson, an expert in healthcare programs and policy, as senior vice president of Corporate Strategy to develop and implement CNSI’s growth strategy, the company reported on Monday.

“Verlon has a strong track record of advancing innovative healthcare solutions and outcomes through improvements in financing, quality, and cost,” said Todd Stottlemyer, CEO of CNSI and previous Wash100 Award recipient. “Her experience and expertise will help us shape our strategy, products, and solutions to meet our clients’ current and future needs.”

Johnson will bring deep expertise in Medicaid, Medicare and healthcare, across state, federal and commercial healthcare markets to CNSI. Prior to joining CNSI, Johnson served as vice president of Health Care Policy and Program Management for IBM Watson Health’s Government Health and Human Services business group.

With the company, Johnson managed a portfolio of projects, valued at more than $50 million. She was a strategic advisor on innovation and improvements to Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance through financing, payment incentives, quality and value-based care design consulting services.

Johnson has more than two decades of experience with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). With the department, she served as CMS associate consortium administrator and deputy to the consortium administrator for Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Operations.

In the role, Johnson directed the strategic planning, coordination, analysis and evaluation of CMS programs, including Medicaid managed care, home and community based services, financial management and health IT systems.

With HHS and CMS, she also served as the interim HHS Region V regional director and the CMS Center for Medicaid & CHIP Services deputy center director. In addition, she held the position of associate regional administrator for the Division of Medicaid and Children’s Health Operations and the Division of Medicare Operations, as well as the Region III regional administrator.

“I am excited to join a team that is passionate about advancing our nation’s health care goals of enhancing patient experiences, improving healthcare outcomes, and lowering medical costs through state-of-the-art technology and innovative solutions. I am honored to use my knowledge and expertise to help build on CNSI’s successes as we continue transforming healthcare,” Johnson said.
