Joe Mariani and Elizabeth Krimmel, senior leaders at Deloitte, have said that combining Agile and DevSecOps will enable information technology organizations to operate their systems while developing new concepts in line with cybersecurity standards.

Mariani and Krimmel wrote in an opinion piece published Friday on Nextgov that agencies must carefully construct their organizational practices to enable the integration of security in DevSecOps processes throughout each stage of software development.

They noted that DevSecOps has the capacity to support automation and continuous monitoring while enabling organizations to modernize and run operations at the same time.

According to Mariani and Krimmel, industry partners can help agencies implement agility and rapidly respond to emerging attacks due to the former’s organizational culture and lack of constraints on the use of legacy systems.

“The key is finding partners who not only bring the technical chops necessary to drive this transformation but who can do so without disruption to ongoing systems, driving stability and minimizing risk along the way,” they said.

Mariani serves as a research manager at Deloitte’s Center for Government Insights while Krimmel is a senior manager for the company’s government and public services practice.
