Executive Mosaic is pleased to announce that Gerry Fasano, president of Leidos’ Defense Group, has received a 2021 Wash100 Award for driving massive defense contracts with federal customers and spearheading valuable acquisitions, which has expanded Leidos revenue and influence in the marketplace.

This marks Fasano’s second consecutive Wash100 Award. He was recognized with a 2020 Wash100 Award for advancing technological capabilities for the U.S. military and federal government while also driving revenue and growth for Leidos.

“Gerry Fasano not only bagged the coveted $7.7 billion NGEN-R for Leidos, but also guided his victory through 3 protests, said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award. Based on Gerry’s intensely competitive and consistent track record of acquisition success, we are expecting another huge year for the Leidos Defense Group and predict Gerry will ‘rinse & repeat’ in 2021.”

Throughout 2020, Fasano has continued to expand Leidos’ offerings and footprint in the government contracting (GovCon) sector. Most recently, Fasano helped lead Leidos’ acquisition of 1901 Group, which was announced in Dec. 2020.

“1901 Group will provide substantial new capabilities to enhance the value we bring to existing defense customers and position Leidos to meet the growing demand for cloud-based solutions in the defense market,” said Fasano. “The Leidos Defense Group will work to ensure these new capabilities are readily accessible to enhance our offerings and pursuits across the company.”

Under the approximate $215 million acquisition, Leidos will be able to respond to growing customer demand for more fixed-priced, utility-based business arrangements. Leidos will also leverage 1901 Group’s proven IT, cloud factories and fully-integrated service delivery platforms.

In addition to the acquisition, Fasano helped Leidos secure multi-billion dollar contracts, which grew the company’s revenue and customer base.

Most notably, Fasano reported that Leidos will be accelerating its transition to modernize its enterprise network through the $7.7 billion Next Generation Enterprise Network (NGEN) Recompete contract from the Department of the Navy that the company won in Feb. 2020.

“We actually briefed the Navy on Friday and they accepted the recommendation that will allow us to maintain and accelerate the transition,” Fasano noted. “We intend to transition early.”

Leidos has at least 100 employees working under the contract to provide end-to-end IT services for more than 650,000 users worldwide across various Navy-based legacy networks to modernize the service branch’s network infrastructures, according to Fasano.

Fasano said that this modern infrastructure will also expose the necessary data for the company to apply its use of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to manage the network, discover the security vulnerabilities at hand and fix them.

“That is the latest and we intend on being well inside that” date by “multiple months” to complete the transition, Fasano added.

Fasano also spearheaded the potential $6.5 billion Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) award for the Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN) support services, which was upheld by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in April 2020.

Leidos will continue to manage DODIN and provide network services to military users under the Global Solutions Management-Operations II contract. “Leidos is thrilled to expand our work for DISA and provide next-generation network services for the warfighter,” Fasano said.

Fasano continued to leverage Leidos momentum from 2020 to drive growth moving forward. Following the continued work of DODIN, Fasano helped Leidos secure a $649 million task order under the U.S. Army's Responsive Strategic Sourcing for Services contract.

Leidos will provide follow-on operations and support services to the Special Operations Command's Tactical Airborne Multi-Sensor Platforms mission. The company will also deliver pilot services, airborne sensor operators, hub and spoke operations/excursion support, staffing for the Intelligence Coordination Center, system training, logistics for the DHC- 8 and King Air 300 aircraft.

“We are proud to support the SOCOM community with tactical ISR operations, system integration and sustainment for commercial derivative aircraft for the Special Operations Command," said Gerry Fasano, Leidos Defense Group president and 2020 Wash100 Award recipient.

Additionally, under the SOCOM contract, Leidos will deliver aircraft and primary mission equipment maintenance and integration, configuration management and engineering support services in support of the Army Contracting Command’s program.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Gerry Fasano and Leidos on his 2021 Wash100 Award selection. His expertise and leadership to grow the company’s footprint in the federal market, while also developing the capabilities of U.S. service branches, which has established Fasano into a top level of achievement in the government contracting sector.
