Brian Harrell, former assistant secretary for infrastructure protection at the Department of Homeland Security and current chief security officer of Avangrid, has joined the advisory board of LookingGlass Cyber Solutions.
Harrell said in a statement released Wednesday he will offer thought leadership to LookingGlass as the threat intelligence firm aims to help organizations protect critical systems and other assets.
His experience spans cyber-physical systems convergence, insider threat mitigation and infrastructure protection.
As Avangrid CSO, Harrell oversees cybersecurity, risk governance, fire protection and security compliance functions that support the energy company's operations across 24 states.
He served as the first assistant director for infrastructure security at DHS' Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency from December 2018 to September 2020 and held a program management role at the department earlier in his career.
Harrell also supported the George Washington University's Center for Cyber and Homeland Security as a senior fellow, as well as worked in security leadership positions at Navigant and North American Electric Reliability Corp.
The former U.S. Marine Corps infantryman is the founder of The Cutlass Security Group, an advisory company focused on organizational resilience, security compliance and risk reduction services.
