Chris Jensen, federal business development and capture manager at Tenable, has said the Department of Defense must maintain cyber hygiene, define vulnerability management approaches and promote network visibility to address pressing classified-level telework demands.
Jensen wrote in a blog post published Monday that DOD leadership should implement best practices in secure telework following the recently reported breach of SolarWinds systems that impacted government entities.
Agencies must first have clear visibility of the digital environment including cloud infrastructure and ensure foundational knowledge of cyber hygiene, according to Jensen.
He noted that DOD leadership must also patch system vulnerabilities and work to implement risk-management practices based on identity vetting and authentication concepts.
Other recommendations that Jensen made are breaking down digital silos and aligning cybersecurity goals across DOD agencies.
“Without alignment, security teams risk chasing down issues that may pose little risk, while leaving their most critical assets and systems exposed,“ he said.
