Frank Muth and John Roberti, former military officers who are now private sector executives, have been named independent members of the National Defense University Foundation's board of directors.

Tara Murphy Dougherty, CEO of defense company Govini and a former Department of Defense staffer, also joined the board with Muth and Roberti, NDU Foundation said Tuesday.

The chief executive served as chief of staff for global strategic affairs at the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Muth, a retired U.S. Army major general, is the vice president of military sales and strategy at Textron's systems business while Roberti, a U.S. Navy veteran, serves as senior VP of government relations and strategy at Cubic.

"We have ambitious plans to foster substantive interactions between NDU, private industry, and whole-of-government to build a more competitive edge for national security leaders attending NDU," said James Schmeling, president and chief operating officer of NDU Foundation.

The foundation runs financial support programs, external partnerships and multisector collaborative efforts to drive joint military education and develop future defense leaders.
