Paragon Space Development will design and implement life support hardware for a pressurized cabin Northrop Grumman is building to accommodate astronauts who will stay aboard the Lunar Gateway as part of NASA’s Artemis mission.

The Habitation and Logistics Outpost’s environmental control and life support system will be designed to maintain air and temperature inside the module and ensure that oxygen, carbon dioxide and humidity in the shirt-sleeve environment are at safe levels, Paragon said Friday.

Northrop leads an industry team that will build HALO under a $187 million contract the space agency awarded in June 2020.

The first crew module for the Gateway station is intended to sustain four crew members over a 30-day period and provide three docking ports for spacecraft or other lunar support vehicles.

“NASA’s HALO program is just one more indication – a marker if you will – of America’s vital re-focus on long-duration space and our renewed commitment to human space exploration,” said Grant Anderson, co-founder, president and CEO of Paragon.
