The National Defense Industrial Association has opened an academic institution in an effort to improve the defense industrial base’s knowledge in doing business with government customers by providing education and training opportunities.
Hawk Carlisle, association president and CEO, wrote in a blog post published Tuesday that the new NDIA Business Institute will serve as a forum where defense industry members can exchange ideas with government and academia.
According to Carlisle, both NDIA members and non-members can access BI courses on traditional and emerging defense-related topics that complement programs offered by the National Defense University and the Defense Acquisition University.
The retired U.S. Air Force general also explained that the association and its partners designed each course with an eye on the demands and jobs of participating companies.
Overall, Carlisle said one of BI’s goals is to help companies overcome the barriers of entry into the DIB caused by the required above-average base level of knowledge and certifications.
“[The] defense industrial base… requires a broad range of education and training opportunities so it can continue to provide weapon systems, sustainment, training and other support to ensure U.S. advantage in any situation,” explained the NDIA chief.
The institute already offered its first course in May, focusing on the goals, requirements and details of the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification.
