Lockheed Martin‘s Sikorsky subsidiary and Boeing have flight-tested the carrying capacity of a demonstrator for a helicopter designed to transport the U.S. Army’s cargo and personnel.

The SB>1 DEFIANT aircraft carried a 5,300-pound Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System training load while flying at the Florida-based Sikorsky Development Flight Center, Lockheed said.

SB>1 DEFIANT serves as the testbed platform for the DEFIANT X weapon system, which Boeing and Sikorsky have jointly entered to the Army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft contest.

FLRAA supports the larger Future Vertical Lift program, which aims to modernize the Army’s aviation fleet.

DEFIANT X features an external load capacity designed to support humanitarian operations across the globe.
