ManTech's Srini Iyer on Federal Health IT Modernization - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Srini Iyer, a senior vice president, chief technology officer and head of the innovation and capabilities office at ManTech International, said federal health agencies should take the right steps to health information technology transformation and one of the efforts industry could do to help agencies in their IT modernization journey is to explore new and emerging technologies and determine their applicability.

Iyer wrote in a guest piece FedHealthIT published Tuesday that industry could help federal health agency clients in their health IT modernization efforts by assessing current capabilities and identifying appropriate processes to transition a project to DevSecOps.

“For customers early in their DevSecOps journey, the approach is to gradually introduce new capabilities that help drive transformation from a siloed structure with non-standard, manual processes to a collaborative, Agile environment with automation,” he wrote.

“The process should involve the Scaled Agile Framework for Agile and collaborative development, and a cloud migration framework to migrate critical customer systems to the cloud at speed and scale,” Iyer added.

Iyer cited how edge computing platforms could help health agencies support patients in remote areas or disaster response settings.

He discussed the prevalence of ransomware attacks and other cyberthreats and how cyber ranges could help agencies test their networks against vulnerabilities.

Iyer also highlighted the potential impact of artificial intelligence, machine learning and analytics on health IT.

“The best approach for industry is to provide a modular data ingest platform leveraging AI and machine learning to deliver results at speed, scale and curate data – all on any cloud, whether Google, Azure, or AWS,” he said.

“Hyperscale analytics driven by AI and ML in the cloud is a future that Government agencies must get busy with now,” Iyer added.
