The U.S. Army has tapped California-headquartered Avon Protection Ceradyne and Pennsylvania-based Gentex to compete for task orders under the $87.62 million Next Generation Integrated Head Protection Systems contract.

The companies, which are the only bidders for the procurement effort, will perform contract requirements through Sept. 6, 2023, at locations to be determined with each order, the Department of Defense said Tuesday.

They will work on the Army’s next-generation combat helmet equipped with passive hearing protection technology and designed to integrate with night vision goggles, visors and other accessories.

The Next-Generation IHPS contract awards come days after the Army tasked a team of Cubic‘s mission and performance solutions unit and General Dynamics‘ mission systems business to build the Synthetic Training Environment Live Training System prototype.
