The U.S. Air Force has awarded KBR a potential $49.7 million contract to continue the research and development of an alternate position, navigation and timing system intended for environments that deny global positioning systems.

The award will also cover the production of the PNT system’s first prototype for commercialization under the third phase of the Small Business Innovation Research program for Stealth and Cognitive Agile Navigation System, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

Work performance for the cost-plus-fixed-fee contract will occur in Dayton, Ohio; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Sterling, Virginia; and Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico through Sept. 30, 2026.

The DOD indicated that KBR will be obligated an initial amount of $250,000 from the fiscal 2021 R&D, test and evaluation funds.
