AECOM has deployed an interactive platform designed to digitize the paper-based planning process used in creating project information for engineering projects.

The company said Thursday it used its PlanEngage platform to help the Federal Highway Administration and Arizona’s transportation department make an environmental impact statement for the Interstate 11 Corridor project.

PlanEngage works to allow teams to produce, edit and publish photos, videos, models, documents and other forms of public information into a unified platform.

The deployment follows a five-year timeline of studies, technical analyses and community input gathering leading to the EIS publication.

“While approval documents, such as an EIS, are traditionally limited to hard copy or pdf formats that can be complex, large and not easily navigable, our PlanEngage platform allows anyone to intuitively locate relevant information,” said Jennifer Aument, chief executive of AECOM’s global transportation business.

The project with Arizona marks PlanEngage’s first use for a transportation infrastructure project. AECOM previously used the platform for a different project with the Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
