The State Department has given the government of South Korea the green light to buy from the U.S. government MK 54 lightweight torpedoes for use on its MH-60R aircraft through a potential $130 million foreign military sales agreement.

The FMS transaction also includes Recoverable Exercise Torpedo, air launch accessories for rotary wing, storage and issue facilities, classified and unclassified torpedo spare parts, torpedo containers and support equipment, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.

South Korea also requested technical support, contract management, exercise firing assistance, contract management, return and repair support, program and logistical services and torpedo training.

The proposed sale will enable the East Asian country to support homeland defense efforts, counter existing and future threats and help the U.S. meet its national security and foreign policy objectives.

DSCA said it notified Congress of the FMS deal Friday.
