Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has secured a potential $14.8 million contract from the U.S. Navy to provide software engineering services in support of a sub-sonic aerial target for anti-ship cruise missile threat emulation.

The Department of Defense said Thursday that Kratos’ unmanned aerial systems unit will conduct software analysis and modification as well as changes implementation on the BQM-177A SSAT.

Under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, work is expected to run through July 2027, with the funds planned to be committed upon issuance of each order.

The company will perform nearly 94 percent of engineering support services in Sacramento, California, while the remaining percentage will be done in Phoenix, Arizona.

BQM-177A is among Kratos-made aerial targets meant to serve as the Navy’s anti-ship cruise missile threat emulator. It is equipped with high subsonic and advanced sea-skimming capabilities.
