Kaman‘s air vehicles division will construct a military prototype of its KARGO unmanned aerial vehicle for the U.S. Marine Corps to support its logistics operations in austere environments.

Kaman Air Vehicles will employ parallel testing for the prototype’s autonomy system courtesy of Near Earth Autonomy, the aerospace company said Monday.

The unit will also work on completing a field user capability assessment to test the logistics vehicle’s operations in a test environment.

The project is being managed under the medium unmanned logistics systems – air program.

The KARGO UAV is designed to operate in stern settings and can carry up to 800 pounds of cargo depending on the desired range. Kaman flew a scaled model of the unmanned aerial system in June 2021 and is expected to showcase a full-scale model later this year.

Carroll Lane, president of Kaman’s precision products segment, said that the company’s focused research and development efforts materialize through the KARGO UAV development for the Marine Corps.
