Gilbane’s federal arm will build a littoral innovation and prototyping facility on the Naval Support Activity installation in Panama City, Florida, under a three-year, $58.5 million task order.

The project covers the replacement of nine buildings that sustained damage when Hurricane Michael struck in October 2018, the Department of the Navy said Thursday.

Under the task order, Gilbane Federal will construct a 54,475-square-foot laboratory and support space to house workstations and laboratories for engineers and scientists.

The future Littoral Innovation and Prototyping Center is designed to comply with the Department of Defense’s Unified Facilities Criteria and to equip NSWC PC division personnel with capabilities to perform research, development, test and evaluation work.

A Department of Defense notice indicates the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southeast received five bids for the project under a multiple-award construction vehicle.
