IonQ looks to establish a research, development and manufacturing facility in Bothell, Washington, as part of the quantum computing company’s 10-year, $10 billion expansion plan in the Pacific Northwest.

The site will be the first manufacturing plant in the U.S. to produce trapped-ion quantum systems, the company said Friday.

IonQ selected a 65,000 square-foot facility in Bothell, where technology companies such as Google, Microsoft and Amazon have set up shop. The new center will be led by IonQ Product Engineering Vice President Dave Mehuys.

“Opening this facility will absolutely help ensure Washington state continues to be a leader in innovation and cutting-edge technologies—but it also means jobs that will be an investment in our families and their futures,” said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash.

The legislator also pointed to the CHIPS and Science Act and other efforts to invest in U.S. manufacturing and build the local economy for the said component.
