Max Peterson Achieves 2nd Wash100 Recognition for Expanding AWS Federal Offerings & Fostering Industry Partnerships - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Executive Mosaic is excited to present Max Peterson, vice president of Amazon Web Services’ Worldwide Public Sector, with his second Wash100 Award in recognition of his leading role in carrying AWS’ cloud innovation to new heights while solidifying the Amazon business arm’s standing as a key technology provider for the federal government.

In its historic 10th year, the Wash100 Award continued its tradition of honoring the most distinguished figures within the government contracting industry with the most prestigious acknowledgment in the community. The 2023 class was selected using a detailed determination process, which identified Peterson’s accomplishments as some of the most monumental in the GovCon field.

“Leveraging his more than eleven years of experience with AWS’ Worldwide Public Sector, Max has laid the foundation for Amazon to build its East coast headquarters on the platform of elite market leaders that the D.C. area has to offer. The government market is particularly vital to the Amazon IT ecosystem,” commented Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the prestigious Wash100 Award.

In his LinkedIn bio, Peterson noted his passion for “working on the bleeding edge of technology.”

“I love the challenge of unlocking and delivering the solution that enables public sector agencies to be on the leading – not bleeding – edge,” he wrote.

Since joining the company in 2012, Peterson’s enthusiasm for the ever-transforming technology space has shaped the way AWS operates in the public sector. The fruits of his dedicated work carried into 2022, when the company received a significant number of authorizations under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, landed a spot on the $9 billion Joint Warfighting Command and Control contract vehicle of the Department of Defense and fostered multiple partnerships.

The first of its many notable FedRAMP approvals came in June, when AWS’ Wickr recall, alert and messaging service was designated as FedRAMP Ready in the moderate ready baseline. The service was later made available on DOD’s Cloud One for use in military initiatives.

In August, AWS announced that it had received an additional 20 FedRAMP certifications, a testament to the company’s continuous efforts to develop secure cloud technologies. Together, these approvals widened the range of the company’s offerings available for federal government use.

This already impressive number grew even larger as the year progressed. In October, AWS was granted a FedRAMP High Authority to Operate authorization for Amazon Connect, its omnichannel cloud contact center product.

AWS also received FedRAMP High level approval for its AppConfig service, which enables its users to build and modify software applications handling sensitive information.

Most recently, the ONTAP data and storage service, which was developed in collaboration with NetApp, received FedRAMP Moderate and High certification at impact levels in specific regions and met impact levels two, four and five of the DOD Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide.

AWS’ technological success culminated in the organization’s selection for a position on the DOD’s potential $9 billion Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability contract, a historic award intended to deliver enterprise-wide, globally available cloud technologies across all security domains and classification levels to mission owners.

Peterson’s leadership has also empowered AWS to nourish its relationships with other companies. In December, AWS finalized a strategic collaboration deal with Carahsoft Technology to extend their partnership and push for the widespread implementation of modernized cloud services.

In May, AWS established a new relationship with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a federal research organization with a goal of maintaining U.S. national security and global stability through a range of scientific areas. Under the partnership, the two are working together to develop a standardized software stack able to operate on both cloud and on-premise supercomputers.

Reprising its mentor role, AWS conducted the third run of its Sustainable Cities Accelerator program, which provides startups with guidance in the areas of technology and business to promote innovation. This year’s program focused on clean technology and its connection to infrastructure.

With Peterson at the helm and a long list of achievements under its belt, AWS is positioned for another successful year in 2023.

Executive Mosaic offers its congratulations to Max Peterson and the AWS team for their 2023 Wash100 Award win and anticipates their future contributions to technology.
