SGT CEO John Ustica Discusses Energy Resiliency in New Video Interview - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Energy resiliency is a growing area of concern and focus for the federal government in light of emerging and evolving threats to our energy systems. John Ustica, CEO and president of Siemens Government Technologies, highlighted energy resiliency as a major emerging trend in the GovCon landscape as federal agencies work to protect themselves against energy threats.

“What our customer is realizing is that we are 100 percent reliant on energy, so not having that resiliency can mean a risk for them,” Ustica revealed in an exclusive video interview with Executive Mosaic.

“Up until the last few years, energy resiliency meant having a backup generator probably like some of us do at our house — in the event the power goes out, we turn the generator on. That’s not a great long-term solution, and it’s also very poor for the environment and not very efficient,” the 2023 Wash100 Award winner explained.

At SGT, Ustica is helping federal customers shift away from outdated backup energy strategies and build in long-term resiliency instead. Part of the implementation of energy resiliency includes moving toward electrification and using microgrids — local, self-sufficient electrical grids with defined electrical boundaries.

However, this migration to things like electric vehicles, or EVs, and microgrids will require organizations to take a closer look at the infrastructure behind it.

“As we move towards EVs and we move towards having more things being electrified, we also have to then update and improve our energy infrastructure,” Ustica said.
