Executive Mosaic is honored to unveil Bob Genter, president of the defense and civilian sector at Science Applications International Corp., as the latest industry executive to join this year’s Wash100 leaders of consequence that execute strategic vision for companies or agencies.

“This is Bob’s first award, and we’re excited to see him among the winners. He has assumed control of SAIC’s defense and civilian sector and is poised to drive SAIC’s meaningful expansion in the DOD market,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and creator of the Wash100 Award. “Bob’s direct style and forceful presence project confidence that is easy to identify as impressive leadership.”

Genter assumed his current role in 2020 as part of a reorganization that SAIC CEO Nazzic Keene, a six-time Wash100 winner, described as an initiative to best align the company’s structure with its strategy and growth priorities.

In a recent video interview, he said the company identified cross-selling opportunities for its information technology portfolio that supports the civilian sector and for its engineering services in the defense segment.

“SAIC has been on a path to be able to acquire different technologies either by investments on our own or through acquisitions and be able to put those together into a kind of ecosystem that we can bring to multiple customers,” the first-time inductee told Executive Mosaic reporter Summer Myatt in the interview.

The Reston, Virginia-based systems integrator booked several awards from defense customers in 2022 and one of these was a $200 million task order in September to support the U.S. Army’s Forces Command G-2-Intelligence, Intelligence Warfighting Function.

SAIC is among the three companies endorsed by the Army Joint Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office in a September memo to offer counter UAS-as-a-service platforms.

“We built an integration capability where you can take many things and you can control many things at one time,” Genter was quoted as saying by Defense News.

In November, the company won a potential $757 million contract to develop and manage software platforms for the Army Enterprise Service Desk.

“SAIC’s proven capabilities in cloud migration, software engineering and IT managed services provide solutions that align with the Army Enterprise Service Management Framework and will enhance IT service delivery across the Army,” Genter said of the contract.

The company additionally secured a $163 million contract to support the life cycle enterprise networks for the Naval Information Warfare Center’s Pacific Shore Networks Branch in San Diego and a separate $151 million contract to update IT networks for the U.S. Transportation Command.

On the civilian side, SAIC will continue to help the Transportation Security Administration assess airport screening and non-screening equipment under a $150 million blanket purchase agreement.

Genter came to SAIC in 2013 after a nearly nine-year career at CGI and worked at American Management Systems earlier in his career.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Bob Genter on his first selection to receive the Wash100 Award. His governance of SAIC’s defense and civilian sector is instrumental in the company’s $7 billion revenue. We expect more accomplishments from him and his organization that will contribute to the growth of the government acquisition industry.
