Applied Insight was awarded a contract to provide an undisclosed but existing intelligence community customer with artificial intelligence development over a five-year performance period. The cloud and technology services provider said Thursday contract work will primarily focus on AI/machine learning and its various aspects to support national security efforts.

A joint venture between Jacobs Solutions and Geosyntec Consultants has secured a spot on a potential five-year, $375 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to offer NASA environmental engineering, restoration and compliance services. Jacobs said Thursday the team will support NASA's centers, component facilities and other infrastructure assets by delivering technical consultation, contamination detection, sampling, human health and ecological risk assessments, remedial alternatives evaluation, remediation technologies implementation and environmental media management.

Jeremy Fleming, former director of the U.K. government's intelligence and security agency Government Communications Headquarters, has been appointed as a senior adviser at enterprise software-as-a-service company SandboxAQ. He brings to the role years of leadership experience and understanding of the cybersecurity landscape, the company said Thursday.

Organizations will have to augment their approaches to network traffic monitoring when they implement Transport Layer Security 1.3, according to Scott Aken, the CEO of software company Axellio. Aken explains in an opinion column published Tuesday on Security Magazine that TLS 1.3 "significantly enhances" data encryption but in so doing imposes limits on data stream decryption, making network security monitoring more difficult and potentially obscuring malware and traffic by threat actors.

Hank Jackson, formerly an executive technology adviser at Edgewater Federal Solutions since 2021, has been promoted to chief operating officer at the Frederick, Maryland-based company. Maxar Intelligence CEO Dan Smoot recently said that he is prioritizing the rollout of the WorldView Legion satellite constellation, which was supposed to begin launching in 2021. Legion is the next-generation imaging platform of Maxar Technologies, the parent organization of Maxar Intelligence, a division that specializes in satellite imagery. The constellation will comprise six satellites in all, with the first two set for launch in the next few weeks.

Google Cloud will offer its new courses and certifications in generative artificial intelligence, data analytics and cybersecurity to the Department of the Treasury's current and future workforce. Karen Dahut, CEO of Google Public Sector and a 2024 Wash100 awardee, said in a blog post published Tuesday that the company's partnership with the Treasury is part of the latter's efforts to drive a skills-based approach to talent acquisition and expand the federal government's access to a broader technology talent pool.

Pragyansmita Nayak, chief data scientist at Hitachi Vantara Federal, said federal agencies should adopt data fabrics to derive actionable insights from large volumes of data to drive mission outcomes and improve citizen services. “Data fabric architectures integrate disparate data sources into a unified, scalable, and well-governed infrastructure to fuel mission outcomes in an accessible way,” Nayak wrote in an opinion piece published Monday.

Aerospace and defense company Mercury Systems has received a $31 million contract from L3Harris Technologies to support the Space Development Agency's Tranche 2 Tracking Layer. Mercury said Wednesday that under the contract, it will provide solid-state data recorders for the T2TL satellites that L3Harris had been tasked to develop for the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture.

Susanne Hake, general manager of the U.S. government business at Maxar Intelligence, said the company intends to expand this year its network of electro-optical imaging satellites to meet the data requirements of government and commercial customers. According to Hake, Maxar Intelligence intends to triple its capacity to gather 30-centimeter imagery and increase revisit rates to up to 15 times each day by launching two WorldView Legion satellites with a plan to deploy another four spacecraft this year.

HII's Mission Technologies division will conduct research, analyze and build capabilities for the Mk 41 and Mk 57 vertical launching systems on the U.S. Navy's surface ships under a potential five-year, $75 million task order. HII said Tuesday the task order was awarded through the Department of Defense's Information Analysis Center Multiple Award Contract.

Edgewater Federal Solutions has announced that Shaun Poulton will be its next chief technology officer and head the company’s technology innovation organization. Edgewater said Monday that in his new position, Poulton will work to drive growth and identify and deliver IT solutions to customers.
