NASA has awarded 15 companies spots on a five-year, $45 million firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract in support of the Flight Opportunities and Small Spacecraft Technology programs. Winning contractors will be tasked to provide flight services and carry out the integration of payloads like science instruments and technology demonstrations onto a variety of platforms, including suborbital rockets, balloons and satellites, NASA said Monday.

NASA-designed collision avoidance software has been tested onboard two research helicopters of Lockheed Martin's Sikorsky division as part of efforts to evaluate the autonomous technology to enable advanced air mobility. Five software systems were loaded into the Sikorsky Autonomy Research Aircraft, a modified S-76B converted into a flying lab, and the larger Optionally Piloted Vehicle Black Hawk.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. and two partners conducted in November a flight test to demonstrate the ability of the MQ-20 Avenger to carry out a multi-objective collaborative combat mission and close the find, fix, track, target, engage and assess engagement chain using various autonomy technologies. GA-ASI said Tuesday it had provided its weapon-target pairing and electronic warfare autonomy skills for the flight test, which took place at the company's Desert Horizon Flight Operations Facility in California.

The State Department has approved the government of Egypt's request to purchase additional light tactical vehicle chassis and fleet build from the U.S. government under a potential $200 million foreign military sales agreement. The proposed FMS deal will add to a previous agreement that includes a 4-Man REV1-B Rolling Chassis with 190 horsepower diesel engines along with training for the chassis assembly process and maintenance, spare and repair parts and testing equipment, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.

Jacobs and its subcontractors were instrumental in the Missile Defense Agency's flight demonstration of Ground-based Midcourse Defense Weapon System-12 interceptor against an intermediate-range ballistic missile.
