Collins Aerospace, a business unit of Raytheon Technologies, has invested $18 million to build a wind tunnel in Rockford, Illinois, as part of efforts to simplify the process for testing ram air turbine products. Work is underway on the test platform at Collins Aerospace's center of excellence for electric power systems and the new structure is scheduled to be operational in the summer of 2022, the aircraft technology supplier said Wednesday.

The company said Thursday the TVA is an all-electric component that has guided all of THAAD's live fire intercept activities so far. The component has also demonstrated capabilities needed for future missile weapon systems.Â

MoreCollins Aerospace, part of Raytheon Technologies, has secured a decade-long, $34 million contract for resources that would help the Defense Logistics Agency repair gearboxes of the U.S. Air Force's F-16 and B-2 aircraft. The contractor said Wednesday it will perform supply chain management and manufacturing services for the gearboxes, which allow an aircraft's transmission system to shift rotational speeds.
