Rocket Lab plans to launch a mission to retrieve its Electron launch vehicle before it executes a splashdown landing in a move to demonstrate rocket reusability. Rocket Lab on Monday launched into orbit six spacecraft for its government and commercial clients as part of the 19th mission of its Electron rocket. The Electron rocket for the They Go Up So Fast mission lifted off from a launch complex in New Zealand to field the six customer payloads, including a technology demonstrator for the U.S. Army's Space and Missile Defense Command and a CubeSat for Care Weather Technologies.

Rocket Lab Gets FAA Clearance to Launch Gov’t Smallsat Missions

The Federal Aviation Administration has given Rocket Lab permission to launch small satellites for government customers from a company-operated facility at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport on Wallops Island, Virginia. Rocket Lab said Tuesday it can use the Electron rocket to perform multiple smallsat missions  from  Launch Complex 2 with the FAA-issued operator license with five-year validity.
